Jorge Posada is a Colombian-born American artist who lives and works in New York City. Since his first exhibition at the age of thirteen in his hometown of Medellín in Colombia, he has dedicated himself fully to his art. Posada, an artist with academic training at the University of Antioquia in Medellín, received the First National Prize for Young Art at the age of 22.
Posada uses the body as a vehicle of expression. Using strong gestural brushstrokes, he has developed a distinctive semi-figurative and semi-abstract style creating series of mixed media paintings and drawings on canvas and paper. His work has iconography with references to political, social and religious themes such as migration, exodus, disappearance and displacement of people, contemporary holocausts, movement and eroticism.
Posada often revisits his previous artwork to find new forms of interpretation in it. He works simultaneously in several series of painting, drawing, sculpture and photography. At the Lower East Side Printshop in New York, he mastered several disciplines of printmaking.
Posada's artwork is found in public collections, ao in the Museum of the University of Antioquia in Medellín, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Bogotá and in private collections in Europe, the United States, Japan and South America. He is a member of the board of directors of Long Island City Artists, a New York-based arts advocacy organization. In addition to his commitment to the visual arts, Posada is an avid writer of poems and stories that are periodically published in the news media .
